System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060

Blender Version
Broken: 2.83 (sub 13), branch: master, commit date: 2020-04-15 21:34, hash: f0221ff667, type: Release
build date: 2020-04-15, 21:04:39
Worked: none

Surface smooth brush strokes don't seem to have any effect until changing modes from sculpt mode to edit mode and back
broken_surface_smooth.mp4

Steps for example file

  1. Create a cube
  2. Go to sculpt mode
  3. Remesh the cube (Voxel Size: 0.01 / Fix poles, Smooth normals, Preserve volume turned ON)
  4. Create detail with Clay strips brush in front view (with X symmetry turned ON)
  5. Switch to smooth brush (Surface mode, Shape preservation to low value, e.g. 0)
  6. Turn off symmetry

Steps to reproduce
broken_surface_smooth.blend

  • Open file
  • Use the smooth brush on the detail on the other side of the object (observe brush having no effect)
  • Switch to edit mode
  • Switch to sculpt mode (observe brush strokes applied in step 7 have taken effect, compare to the other side of the object)
