Backface Culling isn't working on Display Wire + Flickering on/off #75979

System Information
Operating system: Darwin-19.3.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 560X OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-3.5.5

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 13), branch: master, commit date: 2020-04-13 08:07, hash: 2ec6eca518
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Backface Culling is efficient on working while "In Front" is activated but it still shows the Wire if "Display Wire" is enabled.
It also flickers on and off when I pan through the viewport. On the 3rd screenshot I managed to take a screenshot in the middle if it. Can send a video if it helps!

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Activate In Front and Display Wire in the Objects Menu and also Backface Culling. The mesh disappears where it should but the wires don't. Also pan the viewport for the flickering.

Edges, even being part of faces, are not hidden with the Backface Culling option.
This is not a bug, it works by design.

I cannot reproduce the Flickering. Could you better describe the steps to reproduce the problem?
Example:

  • Open attached file,
  • select object

I recorded the flickering. It happened by moving the object. When zooming with the trackpad the backface is deactivated. When panning with the trackpad as well. On the other movements (tablet movement) it flickers when I start moving and stops once I stop moving.

The steps are just moving the mesh. :D

It also flickers on and off when I pan through the viewport.

#75016 (Culled backfaces flicker during viewport navigation when auto-depth is enabled) uhh I had confirmed that

I meant that we can remove the flickering half from here, and stick to "..[Backface Culling ] still shows the Wire if "Display Wire" is enabled."

That doesn't seem to be bug as @mano-wii said here earlier

So I guess we can merge these reports?

Why are the wires viewed differently from the mesh in this case? If backface is supposed to hide it why keep the wires? I thought it was a bug because it doesn’t make sense to me.
