Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 14), branch: master, commit date: 2020-04-23 08:25, hash:
8dedbb1747
Worked: 2.80
Short description of error
An image dropped on the viewport with the addon "import image as plane" used to render with emission shader in 2.80
Now the image appears only on the viewport but not on the sequencer.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Drag and drop a .png with transparency with the addon "add images as planes" active.
Image appears on viewport. Switch to a sequencer view. Add the scene and select the camera from the scene to render.
Sequence viewer appears blank.

This is because when you drag and drop into Blender 2.83, it creates a reference image for you to work from (This is the default action set by Blender, not the addon). This reference image is not renderable because it's just that, a reference image. Importing images as planes still works, you just need to use the menus to access it "Add>Image>Images as plane" in the 3D viewport or from the general header of Blender File>Import>Image as plane.
If this clarifies something, mark this post as resolved. If it doesn't, leave it for someone else to review and decide if it's a bug.

This task is invalid, just as @Alaska said
when you drag in an image into viewport, it creates an empty object, not an actual material
