System Information
Operating system: Win 10

Blender Version
Broken: Both 2.83 and 2.90
Worked: 2.82

Short description of error
Using creases with multires generates weird geometry when you uncheck "Use Creases"

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Launch Blender
  • Go into edit mode
  • Switch to edge mode and select some edges
  • Add crease to those edges (value 1.00)
  • Go to object mode or sculpt mode
  • Add a multires modifier
  • Subdivide a couple of times
  • Uncheck "Use Creases"
  • The mesh will have some kind of "spikes"

This option affects the limit surface, and multires is storing displacement relative to it. So think the only viable solution for now is to disable this option when there is multires data (similar to quality and mode).

@Sergey I still can reproduce this issue, even after this fix ce35cfd208
To reproduce:

  • Launch Blender
  • Go to edit mode
  • Select some edges and add crease (value 1.00)
  • Switch to sculpt mode
  • Add a multires modifier and subdivide a couple of times
  • Go back to edit mode and set the "Mean Crease" value to something below 1.00
  • Switch back to sculpt mode
  • Error

Don't change crease then ;)

There will always be a way to confuse the system in one way or another.

@Sergey LOL
Anyway, I noticed that this issue is more severe when you start with the crease value at 1.00. So if I start with a value below 1.00 and then subdivide, I can go back to edit mode and set it to 1.00 and sometimes it works fine. Weird
