System Information
Operating system: Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4
Graphics card: Intel HD 6000

Blender Version
Broken: 2.83 beta as of May 18

Short description of error
Toggling "save as render" while saving render to image format causes final image to change it's look.
Just compare these:
Saved "as render"
2.png

Saved with unchecked "save as render" (more contrast image, but colors less accurate)
1.png

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Open .blend
    COPY TEST.blend
  2. Hit "render image"
  3. Click "save"
  4. In properties -- change to PNG with 100% compression.
  5. Firstly save image with "save as render", and then second time save same image again with "save as render" unchecked.
  6. Images looks different

ALSO -- I would note that exported images looks slightly different (less contrast and less saturated) than those viewed within render window or in blender itself

With Save as Render it will use the Color Management settings in the render properties, in this case mainly the Filmic view transform. When you disable that option, it will use the Standard view transform. Which one is correct to use depends on the type of image, e.g. a render vs. an image texture. The result is supposed to be different.

Further, other applications may use different color management than Blender which means the image colors can be somewhat different.
