System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 970/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 446.14

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.90.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-06-10 15:23, hash: 2d695367a7

Short description of error
In edit mode selecting and deselecting is adding gigabytes to the memory usage and is not going down. Until it crashes. Does not happen without multires but i am not sure if this is the cause.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. In the test file disable in EDIT the lock object modes option to weight paint the character
  2. select the armature and go in pose mode. Select one of the bones
  3. select the mesh and go in edit mode
  4. select with the circle select ( shortcut c) some faces and deselect it. Do this a couple of times and have a look at the memory consumption at the bottom right corner.

By the way the mesh has a multires modifier that is hidden in viewport and render, should that not disable the memory usage? Neither way this is some sort of memory leak to me. The consumption wont stop until blender crashes because you dont have anything left on your pc.

It seems to be related to undo. When setting the undo limit to a low value it stays at some point on the level but the weight paint on multires objects has poor performance but that a feature request.

To control my observations, delete the multires on the mesh and try it again. The memory use is nearly constant.MultiresLeak.zip

It was the undo limit. But still weight painting with low res objects that has a multires on it are quite memory intensive and that result in a waiting game for weight paint.
