System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 1650

Blender Version
Broken: 2.83.0
Worked: Not Sure

Short description of error
Bevel does add segments as many as you insert but doesn't really bevel the object as it is supposed to be. For example, Cube remains in the shape of a cube with only far corner edges smoothened.
It doesn't happen if I add a separate object like a cube and try to bevel it.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open attached .blend file
  • In edit mode cube is selected by default
  • Bevel the cube using Ctrl+B
    {F8607523,size=full}

Have you tried ctrl+a and tick apply transforms? I'm using bevel since alpha 2.83 and back to LTS release on Win 10, so far no bugs.

Yup. You didn't apply transforms, here's your cube from your file:

Bevel works perfectly. Just make sure you apply transforms when you scale your model heavily.

I was going to report this as a bug as well, but it is due to the transformation in object mode. However, is this a change in functionality? I don't remember it working this way before. Although I guess this way we have more flexibility.

I'm pretty positive it always worked like that.
