Short description of error
application window appears with completely black screen. Splash screen never appears.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
launch ./blender from terminal .

Notes
launching ./blender-softwaregl from terminal allows blender 2.82a-linux to launch, however performance drops exponentially.

They're using Chromebook.

Thanks for the prompt response. And yes, the behavior is the same issue reported in the Chromebook bug thread.

So can you update the mesa drivers to 20.x ?
