System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17763-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon(TM) R5 Graphics ATI Technologies Inc. 4.5.13403 Core Profile Context 15.201.1601.0

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83.0, branch: master, commit date: 2020-06-03 14:38, hash: 211b6c29f7
Worked: Can't check

Short description of error
I have a test scene where I have a cubic volumetric, it worksin eevee, but when I render it, each frame has a random chance of rendering like if my camera was in the middle of a super-dense fog of the same color without lights. I think it makes a number of steps of rendering like in the viewport, but a random number of steps.

This is my results:
0000-0010.mp4
test0000-0010.mp4

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • open attached file
  • render animation (CRTL + F12)
    volumetricTest.blend
    or
  • create general new project
  • select and delete everything
  • add a cube
  • apply it a principled volumetric
  • change color (to see the effect, optional)
  • add light sources
  • add camera (and place it)
  • Change the resolution for faster results (I did it, but it did the bug on every resolution I put, I have a portable pc)
  • render animation (CRTL + F12)

Weird, this is my results:
0000-0010.mp4
test0000-0010.mp4
And nowthat i'm testing it again, even the viewport is glitchy. It refuses to render and when I do things like selecting lamps or moving them or deselecting everything etch., it renders, but it doesn't renders eveytime I do those actions.

Also, for personal reasons, I can't download betas or updates, I got my version from the microsoft store and it updates by itself.

Does this file work correctly in another blender version? (2.82 for exemple)

update: using blender 2.90.1 and the exact same laptop.

volumetric settings:
4 px
128 samples

test0000-0010.mp4
test0000-0040.mp4

volumetric settings:
8 px
36 samples

test0000-0040.mp4

It seems like it randomly changes density, and from vloumetrics only in the cube to volumetrics for the hole world each time I update the viewport.

also seems to be a screen-space related issue because as soon as the cube leaves the view, there is no more bug.

test0000-0040.mp4

Thankyou for your time.

Hi, in Blender 2.91.2 I have been able to solve this issue by making some sort of connection between an input geometry or object info node and the volumetric BSDF node and it worked like a charm. Although, it is worth noting that the issue still happens if I don't do so. I'll also add that someone updated all the graphic cards drivers of the pc.

Thanks for the feedback. I also tested here and the problem really seems to be solved.
Could it be that it had something to do with {#101402}?

Anyway, I'm closing it as resolved.
