System Information
Operating system: Windows-7-6.1.7601-SP1 64 Bits
Graphics card: Quadro M1000M/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 441.66

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83.1, branch: master, commit date: 2020-06-25 09:47, hash: 8289fc688b
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
[Render in default out in "scene", open openmultiexr in Nuke (psyop is updated). Crptmt and metadata loss if file have compression.
But. in this scene unknown asset will destroy cryptomatte and metadata - dont matter have compression or not]

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[Start render.
Open file in Nuke.
See have no metadata and crptmt]

Now cryptomatee can export in nuke only if

  1. File save in "file-save picture..." but we need can save sequence.
  2. "save buffers" off
  3. color rgb
  4. color depth full

But we need to working in settings
1, render sequense
2 save buffers on
3, color rgba
4. color depth hulf

Now cryptomatee can export in nuke only if 1. File save in "file-save picture..." but we need can save sequence. 2. "save buffers" off 3. color rgb 4. color depth full But we need to working in settings 1, render sequense 2 save buffers on 3, color rgba 4. color depth hulf

Are you sure this is a problem in Blender and not Nuke?

Otherwise you can report this on their bug traker:

We try to work with instruction od updated psyop. It isnt Nuke's trouble. Blender is dont write data in every time.
Shortly - yes, we sure (command of film developers.)

Cryptomatte and metadata loss if file have compression.

If it is lossy compression, yes. I used ZIP and had no issue.

  4. color depth half
  1. I have no issue rendering your test file as an animation sequence.
  2. Still investigating this issue, might be a legit bug, or at least an undocumented limitation.
  3. I have no issue using color RGBA
  4. Cryptomatte requires 32bit float aka full color depth.

(NOTE) Hash: Only one hash is currently supported, the 32 bit variant of MurmurHash

(NOTE) Floating point conversion:
We store our IDs as 32 bit floating point values. While not ideal, this is necessary for a
variety of software specific reasons.

I tryed render like your say, cryptomatte in no changed.
Find only metadata. Crtmt is broken. 2020-07-04_20-24-22.png

Settings

  1. RGBA, color depth full, zip, save buffer no, out in scene multiexr
  2. RGB, color full, zip, save buffer no, out in render window - file-save as...
  3. rgba. color full. zip, save buffer no, out in render animation

Please, can you write your settings?
If we fix cryptomatte in blender out, we will make serial in it, its very important for us. Thank you!

I was traveling without my computer, so I couldn't tell you until now.
RGBA, color depth full, zip, save buffer no, out in render animation are my settings. When I was testing this days ago, I was seeing an image like yours, with only 2 colors. Today I tried a few things with your file, and I think the issue is that you are using the compositor in Blender with nothing attached from the Render Layers node to the Compositor Image output. Also the Alpha channel isn't connected, and Use Alpha boxes aren't checked in your file. connected_imagealpha.png Attaching the Image, Alpha, and checking the box makes it work for me in Nuke.

As this is the Blender bug tracker, I will close this report since the issue with compression is a cryptomatte issue and not a Blender specific one. I will test the save buffers issue a little longer, then will open a new report about it and tag you in it.
