System Information
Operating system: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Linux-5.4.0-40-generic-x86_64-with-debian-bullseye-sid 64 Bits)
Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (NAVI10, DRM 3.37.0, 5.4.0-40-generic, LLVM 10.0.0) X.Org 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 20.0.8
Graphics driver: amdgpu-pro-20.20-1089974-ubuntu-20.04

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.90.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-07-10 20:07, hash: d2b910fafe
Worked: none

Short description of error
After D7910, sampling on other windows should have worked but it still doesn't on Linux.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Make sure to have 2 separate windows of the same blender file (Window > New Window).
Use eyedropper from one window to sample something on the next.
Eyedropper tool becomes a normal cursor once it leaves the window that initiated the tool.

In fact, as mentioned, I can't reproduce the problem on Windows.

Is there a way for a non-coder to diagnose this under Linux? I would like to help in any way I can.

version: 2.91.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2020-07-29 22:43, hash: dc3baf2c78

If this is now supposed to be supported, will dare to classify as bug.

I can't get this feature to work at all unfortunately. Neither on Linux, nor macOS or Windows. Latest master that is.

On Windows I do get the color picker for other windows, but if I pick a color, it does not use the color I picked. In most cases it just uses black, or dark grey. The object picker doesn't work either.

I can't reproduce the problem:
color_picker.gif

And I don't have much information to find out where the problem is. (GPU, mouse coords ...)

I tried it with two laptops. One is a Macbook with Boot Camp, which doesn't allow me to use the Intel GPU.
It didn't work in any configuration.

Win 10, 19041.329, custom lite build (0e87a35f8e)

  • AMD Radeon Pro 5500M

Win 10, 18363.592, Latest Builbot (675fa2ee13):

  • NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000
  • Intel UHD Graphics 630

I don't do anything special:

  • Use {nav Window > New Window}
  • Arrange the windows so you can somehow pick from the other one
  • Use any kind of color or object eye dropper (e.g. material base color one)

Does sampling work in 2.9 or is this in 2.91? Also are we able to sample outside of the blender window/env, like another program/window running in Windows, or ONLY in blender?

Would be extremely handy to be able to sample from outside programs/windows when grabbing colors from concept images/etc. Or i guess I can quickly drop in the concept as a image plane and sample that if need be...

Hi everyone, is there news on this? This even works on Windows version of Blender using WINE, but still not on native linux.
