System Information
Operating system: win 10
Graphics card: evga rtx 2060 ko ultra

Blender Version
Broken: (2.90.0 Beta)
Worked: (2.83)

When adding procedural textures (noise, musgrave, etc) in shader editor as part of the material and using Optix Cycles in the viewport, the textures becomes kind of broke, and when hitting render it also stills broke. If I change the render engine to eevee or cycle cuda the textures displays correctly

I'm personally unable to reproduce this issue:

Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 451.67
Blender version: 2.90.0 Beta, branch: master, commit date: 2020-07-28 16:46, hash: d8919d12f7

Are you able to test the latest build of 2.90.0 to see if the issue has been fixed? https://builder.blender.org/download/
Are you also able to try updating your GPU drivers? https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

Are you also able to elaborate on the GPU driver you are using, Windows version, and the Blender hash you're using. Both can by automatically generated by selecting from the top of Blender Help > Report a bug then copying the information from the page that shows up in your web browser.

I am also seeing the same problem with the latest daily 2.90 build (c5519d4b6f). The problem does not happen with 2.83.4, and I've been seeing it with every 2.90 build for several weeks.

OS: Ubuntu 20.04
Graphics card: RTX 2080 SUPER

I upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers (450), and it seems to have fixed the problem. Note that this version is not currently in the official Ubuntu repository, so this might be a problem for a lot of users, depending on how soon 2.90 releases.

We are having the same issue at the studio as well. We are using PopOS 20.04, and I am a bit hesitant about manually installing new drivers other than OS update, since I had issues with that in the past. Current driver is 440.100. Is there anything that can be done here, @brecht?

Tried on all the recent driver branches (on Windows):

  • R440: does reproduce
  • R445: does NOT reproduce
  • R450: does NOT reproduce
Which lets me to believe this was a compiler bug in the driver that has since been fixed. So you should be good updating to a newer driver, from at least the R445 branch, better yet R450. On Windows that is 452.06 aka R450 U3, on Linux 450.66.

That's good news then, hopefully @sebastian_k can confirm.

Couldn't test on Linux, since Pop-OS still has the 440 drivers, and after some issues I had in the past I rather not mess with non-standard drivers there :)
However, my colleague on windows did have 451 drivers, and there it works fine. So yeah, I'll just wait with 2.90 until the drivers update on Pop-OS.
Thanks for looking into it!
