For me, It Uses Around 5GB on hitting F12 when viewport is in Render Mode....(Windows 10 Total Use:- 10GB+) and around Half of that when in Solid Mode (Windows 10 Total Use:- Less than 8GB)
Can you Please Check if you Have Enough Memory?
I do have enough ram, 32 gb in total.

@Hongyu I am looking at older reports, is this still an issue? Or have anything changed?
Added subscriber: @mares-1
I have the same issue here.
Cannot render anything on CUDA since I switched from Windows-7 to Windows-10 a few days ago.
I did use Blender quite a lot on Win7 before, with CUDA - and did NOT have this type of issue.
Now Blender crashes/quits as soon as I hit F12, or click on the rendered mode Icon in the viewport.
[Windows does NOT crash! just Blender]
Error message is the same as other people reported:
EXCEPTION_STACK_OVERFLOW in nvcuda64.dll
Latest nvidia drivers (as of 28.12.2020) - I also tried the previous one, no improvement.
