System Information
macPro 2010 2 x Xeon with a patched Catalina to install it and use a custom PC AMD GPU.
Operating system: Darwin-19.3.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-3.5.5
macPro 2012 2 x Xeon with High Sierra 10.13.6
NVIDA Wedrivers 2 x GTX 1070Ti
Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.90 Final
Worked: 2.83 works
Short description of error
Blender crashes with cycles when rendering in viewport or hitting render into image
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Start blender
switch to cycles
hit viewport render
crash
** EXTRA INFO
I noticed that while I have CUDA installed on High Sierra 2.9 does not show it while 2.8x does
It seems with Blender 2.9 something in general changed a lot making it break on many macOS versions now
no matter if NVIDA or AMD cards.

Based on the operating system information in your report I assume you actually meant macOS 10.15.3 in the title. Is that correct?
Yes 10.5.3 catalina
Sorry my fault

Hi Robert,
I tried Blender 2.9 Beta and Blender 2.91 Alpha today
Both crash when trying to render with cycles viewport/image
Thank you for the crash log. Unfortunately you will have to wait until one of our developers for macOS can take a look at this, since I don't have Apple hardware for testing.
For future reports, please upload the file instead of posting it as a comment. You can either drag and drop it or use the upload button shown in the screenshot below.

I have the same problem, Blender always crash on mac os Mojave after finish rendering.

I have the same problem- tried 2.9 release and 2.9.1 beta
Machine config: 2010 Mac Pro (2 x 3.33 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon), 64GB of RAM, Radeon rx580 8GB, running Mojave 10.14.6.
I notice it will render a completely new empty scene, but once you add an object or manipulate anything in the scene (in my case I added a sky texture to the world) it will immediately crash when attempting to render.

@fulviobosco @ClaasKuhnen please edit your comments to remove the crash report, which is now in the description.

Same problem. Blender 2.9 crashed in material preview mode. MacOS 10.13.1
The crash report said the thread that has something to do with embree crashed.
I downloaded the Blender 2.9 splash file (fox) and also crashed when changing to material preview mode.
Blender 2.83 is fine. Something must have changed in Blender 2.9

I suspect these are all computers with CPUs from around 2013 or earlier, that do not support AVX2, and this is somehow crashing in Embree.
Embree seems to have some workaround for a compiler bug in Apple Clang 9.
https://github.com/embree/embree/commit/e1b83e4
We are using 10, but this workaround was committed when 9 was the latest release, and perhaps the bug has simply not been fixed in later versions.
I'll try lowing the ISA to AVX. This will reduce performance a bit for all CPUs, but the difference is likely quite small.
Here's a test build with a potential fix, based on the above guesswork:
https://download.blender.org/ftp/brecht/builds/blender-macos-simd-fix0.dmg
Can anyone test if it helps?
Cycles Render crashes same way instantly
eeVee I can crash when going into material preview rendering and then assign a material to a previosuly made mesh
adding the material during solid mode going to material preview and then changing the material has no issue
starting in preview material in Cycles then adding a new mesh also crashes cycles
I uploaded both crash reports

Same problem here:
macPro mid 2010 2 x 2.93 6-core Xeon.
High Sierra 10.13.6
96 GB DDR3
AMD Radeon R9 280x 3GB no OpenCL just CPU
Broken: version: 2.90 Final and 2.91 (brecht)
Worked: 2.83 works
Blender crashes with cycles when rendering in viewport or hitting render into image. On Eevee If switched to renderview in Viewport and afterwards switch to Cycles in Pulldown - crash.
In 2.91 the viewport doesn´t react to mouse click - menus are working

I managed to reproduce this in a virtual machine and found an alternative fix. The 2.91 macOS build on https://builder.blender.org/download/ has the fix, please let me know if it doesn't work.
Just tried the build- works great!
2010 Mac Pro (2 x 3.33 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon), 64GB of RAM, Radeon rx580 8GB, running Mojave 10.14.6.
Thank you Brecht!
It did not work for me.
Mac Pro mid 2010 running Mac OS 10.13.1
2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1 GB
It worked with the default cube. It did not crash with cycles on preview mode or render mode.
However it crashed when switching to material preview mode with both the Blender 2.9 splash screen file - the one with the colorful wolf, as well as the Blender 2.8 splash screen file.

@gX3, please create a separate bug report for that then. A crash in material preview mode would be an issue in Eevee, not Cycles.
@gX3 FYI, your GPU Radeon HD 5870 is below the minimum requirements for Blender 2.8x and 2.9x. It has the TeraScale 2 micro-architecture, but GCN first generation or later is required. You might still be able to run Blender on your hardware, but we do not officially support it.
Yep all works
also the crash with material preview is solved.

I have the newest 21" iMac with upgraded everything. Crashes when rendering every few times. Or, of course. when I least expect it. Such an enormous pain in the ass. Cant get anything done. I don't know how to send crash reports or anything. Will never see a response to this but thought you all should know.
@photag216, see https://developer.blender.org/maniphest/task/edit/form/1/ for how to report a bug.
