This is an update for io_scene.3ds for Blender 2.79 As the new Blender 2.8+ handles textures only in nodes, it has become a lot like 3ds max and therefore Imade a major change to the 3ds exporter and importer, because 3ds stores the textures in different chunks for each image texture node. The files exported with the new script can be easy iported to 3ds max with all textures, materials, lights and cameras at the right place, but Blender 2.79 does not read them correctly so I also updated that script . Enjoy!

This seems to work perfectly! I'm working with an old toolset right now that seems to have some issues similar to 2.79, so I'm having to go between the two Blender versions in order to work with tools I'm used to and export the format I can use, and there aren't any issues doing that with this updated script.
I made the same modifications like in in the script for the new blender version, so file conversation should work now - the 3ds exporter in the new blender version is more advanced - I personally have completly moved to Blender 2.8
