System Information
Operating system:
Graphics card:

Blender Version
Broken: 2.83.5-linux64
Worked: unknown

Short description of error
pressing ctrl-z with annotate tool while in edit mode does not undo last annotation stroke as expected.

NOTE: the "-ish" is because it is not exactly clear if to me if there is an exact relation between Edit Mode and the last annotation stroke not being undone.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
0. (start in Object Mode)

  1. press tab to enable Edit Mode
  2. draw something with the annotation tool
  3. press ctrl-z (nothing happens)
  4. press tab to go back to Object Mode
  5. press ctrl-z again (now the last annotation stroke gets undone)

Sorry, but It's not clear for me what you mean. The first thing is you cannot draw with grease pencil in Edit mode, so I think you are talking of annotations not grease pencil (they are different things).

When you say "enable Edit Mode", what do you mean...mesh edit mode or grease pencil edit mode?

I have tested following what I understood and was unable to reproduce in Windows.

I meant the annotation tool.

@mont29 I have seen something of the Undo and not sure if this a bug or not.

  1. Start default scene.
  2. Go to Edit mode.
  3. Draw 3 diffferent lines using annotations.
  4. Press Ctrl+Z. You will see that only after 3 undos the annotations are removed.

Now, try the same in Object mode.

Now, if you draw 3 annotation lines, if you press Ctrl+Z each undo, "undo" one annotation.

Is this the same limitation as described in blender/blender-app-templates#65154#712420? Maybe worth keeping a known issue task open as this has been reported a number of times...

According to the comments of @brecht in the other tasks, it's a limitation of the Undo system, so we can keep this as Know Issue.

We now have #90686 (Annotation tool: wrong undo order and different in different modes) which has a bit of an "up-to-date" analysis of the situation (including the different behaviors in different modes, so will make an exception here and merge this older report with the newer (lets continue discussion in #90686)
