You are correct. The Point Density texture node does not work in EEVEE. This limitation is documented in the manual. See the link below:

Currently, Shader nodes that only work in either Cycles or EEVEE do not appear in the add node menu when the other render is set in the scene settings. However, this is not the case for other types of nodes. Is expanding this functionality something you would be in favor of @brecht and @fclem? If so, where in the code base should I look to implement this as a paper cut?

(Triaging Note: l am leaving this task open for the time being while I wait to see if I get the go ahead instead of closing it as a documented limitation.)

I am not very familiar with subsystem so see how hard it would be to implement, but as long as this is ducumented limitation I think I will close this report.

Issue reported here is a request for modified/improved behavior and not a bug in current behavior. Closing as this bug tracker is only for bugs and errors.
