Worked: 2.83.5

Short description of error
When there is context mesh in current view layer, change active work space as "UV layout" cause crash

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I test with Factory preference , but it seems not solve this issue.

  1. open blender default scene, add new mesh cube . (or load saved blend file which include mesh with UV)
  2. Change work space "Layout" to "UV Editing" tab.
  3. Blender suddenly crash

I test with new scene (then add cube), and load many blend file I have worked with other 2.83 build., for all case, when I change work space to UV layout, it cause sudden crash.

if There is no mesh, then I change work-space as UV layout, after that load mesh, blender not crash, but
with select mesh, then go to edit mode, blender crash .

If there is no crash when loading factory settings, it is quite probable, that this crash is caused by some addon. Can you try to check that and isolate onae that causes crash?

No I said, with factory setting test this crash still happen as soon as I change layout as UV layout with mesh cube scene.
And I disable all add on from preference, but it still happen

And other verision (LTS 2.83.5), 2.90 2.91 do not crash, with same add on setting. only this version 2.836 show this crash for me.

Same crash happened about recent commit.
only "UV editing" layout cause issue, when there is mesh in scene.

Sorry I misread info in report.

Can you update GPU drivers, just to be sure that doesn't have anything to do with crash? I will look at commits in 2.83.6 to see if there is something obvious in meantime.

RIchard Antalik , are you a developer? If you are not, I think you should not change other user report status as you like.
If you are developer, It is OK. If you change status, I think it may take more time, developer confirm problem and solve issue.

When I find bug or problem, I up-date driver . So I hope it will be test and confrimed by developer, almo . Actually It is clear bug for me, which generated by commits for 2.83,6 .

@takeshi funahashi (waitinfuture): will merge into T80530: (2.83.6 Beta) Crash when switching to Edit Mode, since that is already bisected, so the offending commit is found.
Lets continue discussion there.

Philipp Oeser, thanks take you time .

I somehow managed to reproduce this issue in 2.91, stach trace looked very similar to T80530, so I think this will be the same issue. So I will merge this report.
