Creating a particle system with source as faces, creates an unwanted particle in the middle of the mesh.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Create a mesh (cube)
Create a particle (cube).
Create a particle system on the mesh with source as cube, and emitting from faces.

This is often a limitation when you add modifiers after the particle.
But in the attached file I don't see this particle in the middle of the object.
Did I get the problem wrong?
You've understood the problem correctly - I'm using the same blend file, but I get this:

I also can't reproduce this issue.
Please download development build from https://builder.blender.org/download/ and check if this is still issue.
Try to update GPU drivers.
Click on Help > Report a Bug and copy system information to this report so we can know what GPU and driver you are using.
