version: 2.90.0, branch: master, commit date: 2020-08-31 11:26, hash: 0330d1af29, type: Release
build date: 2020-08-31, 10:00:13
platform: Windows with updated gpu driver.

If you set the viewport clipping distance start to a lower number than (0.001 meters) you cannot see the green square that snaps to vertices and the tool does not work.
This also happens in blender 2.82.

Reproduce:

  1. Set viewport clip start to 0.0001 or lower.
  2. Make a box and go into edit mode.
  3. Press K and try to make a cut - this should not be possible.
  4. Set the Clip start to 0.001 or higher, now you should be able to cut again.

I cannot reproduce this with either the latest stable or current development versions of Blender:

Please try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/

Go to File → Defaults → Load Factory Settings and then load your file to see if you still can reproduce this issue.

If the problem persists, please give us more clear instructions on how to reproduce it from scratch.

@mano-wii I was able to reproduce it in 2.91 both at home and at work but then it occurred to me that I am using the same "blender-start file". So I tried not loading my start file and Voila! the issue is gone.
So with a clean installation of 2.91 I cannot reproduce the issue.

So it would seem that something in my start file (created in blender 2.8) has gotten 'corrupted' somehow. I have also experienced extremely many crashes with 2.9 so maybe this is can also be related to the start file somehow.
I reported the crashes here: Random crashes

I wil try a clean install of 2.9 and create a new start file from scratch and see if that helps me, thanks.

This could be related to the same problem described in #65585
Some improvements have been made to the knife tool and others are planned.

Thanks for the report, but unfortunately unless there are clear instructions on how to reproduce it we cannot debug this any further.
If you find the steps to reproduce the problem, please submit a new report ;)
