Eevee Ambient Occlusion is very noisy and increasing sample count from 64 to 1024 does not improve the output visually at all.

  • open Sample file
  • press F12 to render

Thanks for the report, I can confirm.
It is possible that it is a limitation, but it is not described in https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/render/eevee/limitations.html

One workaround is to brute force the render 2x resolution and scale down the image. Though this creates problems if the render resolution is quite high to begin with.

There might be also way around this for still images if the animation frames have different noise seed but I have not tested this.
