Boolean Objects dont appear to cut out shape of some parts of the mesh, Where removing opposing faces to create a full Cut out, sometimes won't work #81960

System Information
Intel 8750H, GTX 1060 6GB, 32GB DDR4 Laptop.
Operating system:
Windows 10 x64 Pro
Graphics card:
GTX 1060 6GB Laptop

Blender Version
2.83, 2.90.1 Broken

Short description of error
Boolean won't cut my object through entirely (I am trying to make a window/doors like my two previous attempts which worked, but won't work for new objects.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Download my blend file,
Blend File
My Scene has the issue already setup

you will see that when the blend file is opened that Objects Rear Door, and Pantry Door, the boolean works fine.
but for some reason, the boolean for Bed4 Door and Side Window doesn't actually make a cut in the walls. even though they have been set up in an identical way.

I have removed some of the faces, in the same way, I did for the boolean objects that worked, this allowed the rear door and pantry to have a seethrough hole cutout and is great as it allows me to move the object about to move the cutout essentially.
The whole boolean modifier seems to feel very buggy.
I have tried with the normals flipped and reset,

I don't think this is myself... user error. this does feel bugged, I have posted my issue on stacked exchange for help and We are convinced it's bugged.

anyways I hope this is something that can be solved easily enough.

regards
Shaun

A few things

  • This now seems to work correctly with the new "Exact" boolean solver that will be in 2.91 (see below). The old boolean support has a multitude of known issues, especially with non-manifold object cutters like yours here.
  • Even with the new Exact boolean, it is best to have proper solids (manifold, water-tight, objects). Your 'Bed4 Door' and 'Side Window' objects are not manifold, but they do happen to work in this situation with the "Exact" boolean. That may not always be the case however.

Thankyou so much for the solution,

I confirm 2.92 alpha works
