System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 1660

Blender Version
Broken:2.8
(example: 2.79b release)
(example: 2.80, edbf15d3c044, blender2.8, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)
Worked: (optional)
Okay, so weird fix...

1} Go to Edit>preferences
2} Set the clip Alpha to 0.005 instead of the usual 0.004 and you can see your image.
3} Make sure your "overlays" feature on the top right corner is turned on!

Short description of error
I can't see my reference image in my viewport. Blender notices there's something there but can't show it for some reason.I was even in the object properties and increasing its size and everything, thinking it would work but still, nothing works except for the above-mentioned fix.
Hope you guys can fix this technical error. Thanks for the support!

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
1} Hit shift+A
2} Go to Image> Reference> Load the reference image
3} You should see a empty appear in the collection box but you don't see a image.
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

Sounds like it was alpha clipping. What was the image, can you share?

As @Bodi said, please provide an example file that demonstrates the problem. I couldn't reproduce this in any Blender version based on the currently provided information
