Laggy Render Properties with Cycles set as Render Engine #82980

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.18362-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 457.30

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.91.0 Beta, branch: master, commit date: 2020-11-19 18:09, hash: dca36a8ec9

Short description of error
When Cycles is set as the Render Engine, the render properties start to slow down more or less heavily when scrolling, depending on how many panels are opened.
It does not do that with other sections like Modifiers or Scene Properties, or with the 2 other render engines on that same render panel. I tried disabling all the addons, it does nothing but slightly improving the performances (less content to calculate I guess).
It does the same thing with 2.92 as well.
I can't tell where that issue is coming from, or if it was already reported.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Nothing particular, just set the Render Engine to Cycles, then scroll up and down in the Render properties.

I can't reproduce this on my system. Is this only happening in 2.91 and 2.92 or also in previous versions?

It didn't happen in 2.90 or 2.83 and older.

Oh, something I just spotted, it slows down when the "Hair" and "Performance" panels are opened. All the other ones seem to be fine when opened.

@ElioH Does this happen with any file or only some files? Can you click on File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings and check if this still happens?

It happens in any files, including default scene.

With default settings, the effect on the default scene is less strong in the render properties, but the passes menu in the View Layer panel is still very laggy, so it's half solving the problem.

Speaking of View layer panel, I've also spotted that same performance issue in a few other parts of the UI, but as far as I know it's only in the properties.

I don't know if that could come from my computer, any driver or update of any kind. I'm not really aware of what could cause that problem outside of Blender, if it's that.

Thanks for info. Perhaps it would help running Blender in various debug modes from console and looking at output. --debug-all may be overwhelming, but it would be good start. See https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/advanced/command_line/arguments.html

I haven't saw similar report yet so it may be unique to your setup, I think this issue would be easy to spot. If we get more reports like this we may see common denominator though.

I'll try that, it might take some time since I'm working on a project and I'm not that familiar with command lines, but it should be ok.

That's what I thought as well for the uniqueness of the problem. I'll try to figure it out on my side in the meantime.

Ok I found what was making it slow, it was an addon. Though I'm still a bit confused about why it was still a bit laggy after clicking on Load Factory Settings, but it seems to be fine now.
