Blender Version
Broken: 2.91.0, 2.92.0 (
ba740ad2ab
)Worked: 2.90.1
Short description of error
Horizontal artifacts across newly rendered images in image viewer. Exported images are clean and do not contain the artifacts.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error - A
Render display in current master:
In Blender 2.90
Example file: image_editor_line_drawing_error.blend
Note: The problem seems to happen only when the "Interface Resolution Scale" (in User Preferences) is different than 1.0 (e.g., 1.3).
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error - B
Default startup, simply render the default scene untouched. Additionally, the issue is visible regardless of rendering engine or other rendering settings such as samples, integrator, etc. The artifacts are more visible with a smooth-shaded Suzanne /w subdivision surface modifier levels 3 or 4, particularly around the top of the ear, although they are visible with the upper edges of the default cube. Selecting fractional zoom level 1:1 does not mask the artifacts, suggesting they are not scaling artifacts.
I have attached several files:
Default scene cube screenshot section:
Cube replaced /w smooth shaded monkey /w subdiv modifier:
Cropped, scaled, and level-adjusted excerpt of the prior image to more readily show the artifact:
Saved .blend of the prior render, just in case it should be useful:

I should note that I have confirmation from two other blender users, though I do not have details on their systems.
Edit 1: one of the users is on: Windows with Radeon RX 570
Possibly introduced by these changes noted in the 2.91 release notes:

I would just like to note that I was able to reproduce an issue like this during the 2.91 beta but was unable to figure out how to reproduce it reliably and the issue went away with small adjustments to the user interface.
Operating system: Linux-5.8.0-3-amd64-x86_64-with-debian-bullseye-sid 64 Bits

https://developer.blender.org/T82999 - here is a description and demonstration of a similar bug that occurs in win7. The dependence of the appearance of a bug on the image resolution and interface configuration, in particular the vertical size of the editor, is shown.

The new image engine uses float matrices and is a bit less precise and might introduce these artifacts. We should see how to solve these issues.

It seems that not all the information is in this task.
What we found out was that the issue is related to UI scaling. When setting the UI scale to 1.0 fixes the issue in most cases here at the studio. That said I still want to implement a more stable solution that will work in more cases. This should be part of #92525 (Image Engine redesign.).
@mano-wii: I applied D12351 and it does not seem to fix #92903 unfortunately on my system

I'm seeing this problem in v3.0 and setting the resolution scale has no effect
But changing the setting Interface/Display/Line Width from Default to Thick does fix it.
I'm on Windows 10
