Exported STL file unit size off #83711

System Information
Windows 10
RTX 2070

Blender Version
2.90 (not 100% on this as there is no help, about. Checked the blender installation and noticed a folder called 2.90)

Short description of error
Since I updated blender anything I create and export as an STL file has completely different unit size in Cura. If I change the unit size to mm with a metric system value a 2m cube in blender is a 2mm cube in Cura. Before the update there was no issue, I would change my units to metric and mm 0.001 and when I exported the STL file and opened it in Cura a 2mm cube would be 2mm. I do not change scale sizes for scene or export. Can someone help me with this? I can scale it back down in Cura and also have a massive z axis offset that needs to be fixed every time so it appears on the bed in Cura.

To recreate use the starting scene in blender, export it as a STL file, open it in Cura. The 2m cube is now 2mm. Cura version 4.8.0

Any help in resolving this issue is greatly appreciated.

Regards

Mark

As far as I'm aware the behavior hasn't changed between Blender versions. You have to set the scale factor in the export options as .stl is unit less and the importing application choses how it interprets the values. If something does work differently then please tell us what two Blender versions you're comparing. Past Blender versions can be downloaded from here (*.zip can simply be extracted and don't require installation).

Since you were unsure what Blender version you're using, this information can be found in various locations as explained in this Stack Exchange answer .

Hello,

Sorry for the late response, figured out what I was doing wrong. In the scene properties the unit scale has to be manually set to 0.001 then there is no scaling issue when opening the STL file in an external program. I thought setting the length to millimeters was doing that for me but it doesn't seem to change anything for my intended purpose of the file. Thanks for the help.
