Blender Viewport Shading Visual Bug #83947

opened 2020-12-19 04:35:32 +01:00 by Maximilian Funk · 11 comments

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Pro
Graphics card: VTX3D AMD Radeon R9 390

Blender Version
Broken: both v2.91 and v2.83.10
Worked: none

Short description of error
Im a complete noob at blender and have just started learning it but i still get the feeling that the problem im experiencing is not a feature but rather a visual bug.
I was following a beginner tutorial and the person making the tutorial switched to the "Viewport Shading" Mode, which changed the lighting to the actual light object in the 3D space. Upon me doing the same thing, i was instead greeted by a non-lighted grey cube. When i moved my camera around this grey cube started revealing the actual 3D cube object underneath it, being "carved away" by the corners of the cube when i moved my camera around and zoomed it in and out. This is extremely weird and its probably hard to understand just from text, which is why i attached a recording of the bug. Also when i switched to the Render Preview with F11/F12 my cube was just a cubed-shape space of transparency. I have no idea why this is happening or what to do about it.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I have no idea how to repdroduce it. I uninstalled Blender many times and even switched versions. It just happens.fc2bde4a91ed58e648753dcee5b584bc.png

There have been various reports of rendering issues with AMD GPUs in Blender after recent driver updates (20.11.1 and beyond). Are you able to try downgrading your GPU drivers to see if it helps?

For reference, we keep track of these issues with the drivers in #82856.

You can also try enable Render Properties -> Performance -> High Quality Normals as a temporary workaround, however this does not work for all types of objects in Blender.

Yes, it happens in AMD with Eevee I guess. I was using Mac with AMD Graphics cards in 2.79, then after 2.80 and Eevee, I had that bug too. I thought it was due to MacOSX but I saw the same bug at u, so I guess it was due to AMD. My AMD GPU was not updated and it still happened :(

The problem was in the drivers.I have a card AMD r9 290 and at the last update this appeared.
I installed the old version 2.09.1 and the problem went away.

If you want to use a newer release try installing the Radeon™ Pro Software for Enterprise version of the driver.
