{F9541423}System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Pro
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super Max-Q Dock

Blender Version
2.91.0

Short description of error
Laptop boots Latest version of blender correctly. However, when i connect my dual monitors through my ThinkPad USB-C docking station i can't boot up Blender. I receive this error in the attachment. If i connect 1 monitor directly to my laptop it's run correctly.

I've tested on my Lenovo ThinkPad laptop with my ThinkPad Docking station and my Dell Laptop with my Dell docking station and both produce the same error.

@mileymoonboard

I receive this error in the attachment.

There is nothing attached to this bug report - did you forget?
Use the "Upload File" icon, next-to-the-last on the web editing window. Looks like a cloud with an up-pointing arrow on it.
Even with such an error message, there is not much to go on. Bug Reports gives some guidelines on how to write a complete bug report - and it really needs to be complete. Thank you in advance for that.

OpenGL is a graphics protocol which Blender uses to communicate with your computer display. This OpenGL protocol, which is bundled with many display drivers, must be at least at version 3.3 for Blender 2.80 and greater to operate.

Your docks have their own graphics subsystem with their own drivers; these 'take over' when your laptops are plugged into the docks and the display drivers in the docks are the ones interoperating with Blender.

To Blender, these dock-based display drivers do not appear to be OpenGL capable, or are not at a sufficient version level. That is the basis of the error message you are getting. However, when you use your laptops by themselves, the graphics drivers in the laptops are interoperating with Blender, and these appear to be sufficiently recent to support OpenGL 3.3.

I am closing this bug report because you are requesting support - in the form of guidance from us to help distinguish if the issue rests with your drivers, hardware, cabling -- or Blender. We are insufficiently staffed to provide such guidance! Blender itself is complex; it is beyond our ken to diagnose most hardware configurations as well.

You should not consider preparing a bug report about Blender itself until you yourself have undertaken a process of fault isolation that leaves you fairly certain that your configuration is in the clear and the problem lies with Blender. When you prepare your bug report, its completeness reflects the fault isolation steps you have taken and how they support the conclusion you have drawn.

Some items to consider during fault isolation:

  • Drivers current? - particularly those in the docks. Blender needs drivers compliant with OpenGL 3.3 and above.
  • Cables good? 4K HDMI signals operate at extremely high frequencies and slight physical imperfections in cables can adversely affect hardware and drivers

Ask around at Blender support web sites? These sites, unlike this bug tracking site, are far more heavily visited by a wider range of people with a wider variety of hardware. Start at those places first before considering a bug report here.

A complete report also contains:

  • system information. Use Blender on your laptop when disconnected from the docker and invoke, from the menu: Help > Save System Info. Attach that file to the bug report.
    • operating system with service pack or revision level included,
    • GPU hardware in your dock
    • graphics driver of your dock. Consider updating if you have never done so, as drivers shipped with hardware often are not current.
  • Blender version exhibiting the problem,
  • An earlier Blender version that did operate with the docks, if one existed.

This may see like a lot of work - it is a lot of work! But a complete bug report that clearly establishes that an issue exists with Blender is, in itself, a valuable contribution to this project. Bug resolution usually entails solving a mystery; the more clues you provide, the more likely it is that the bug can be solved, making a better Blender. Thank you in advance for that effort!
