Short description of error
When applying the sky texture to the world it creates flat shaded parts on the mesh and smooth shaded

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Apply a sky texture to the background node and use a standard principled bsdf shader on the object while it is smooth shaded.

Event Timeline

This is an issue known as a "Shadow termination artifact". To reduce this effect, you can try one of these options:

  1. Give the object smoother geometry by using something like a sub-division surface modifier.
  2. Select the object and increase the shadow termination offset (see image below). This will "move" the shadow on the object, but will decrease this artifact.
  3. Increase the size of your light source, in your case, the sun angle.
  4. Or use a combination of settings found above.

Right, it's not related to the Sky Texture specifically but to every light really, so i would close this as invalid
