Following issue with high resolution rendering: #82042, #82591

Short description of error
In recent alpha build when rendering with both options CPU and hybrid GPU+CPU the image inside image editor during rendering is different than the same image after rendering, and also both of them are different than saved image on the disk.
(As a sidenote - threshold to trigger this behaviour should be setting image output size somewhere between 15000 and 19000px in width with constant proportion to height)

Image during rendering:
TEST_IMAGE-EDITOR_during_rendering.png
Image visible in image ditor after rendering finishes:
TEST_IMAGE-EDITOR_rendered_unsaved.png
Here is closeup of the rendered and saved file:
TEST_rendered_saved.png

Images have different resolution. Images inside image editor are displayed with rectangular pixels. Saved image have noise, image in image editor doesn't.
With such differences user is unable to validate scene, shader and render quality until the final image is saved to the disk:

Blender Version
Broken: 2.92.0 hash 6154aa1529 branch master
Worked: 2.90.1 hash 3e85bb34d0

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open attached .blend file.
  • Hit F12 for render
  • zoom in until you clearly see individaual pixels
  • watch closely when rendering finishes image will flick and change to different one
  • after you save the result it will look completly different again

I cannot reproduce the issue.

During Render:
during_render.png

After:
after.png

They have the same resolution.

I cannot reproduce the issue. During Render: ![during_render.png](https://archive.blender.org/developer/F9559591/during_render.png) After: ![after.png](https://archive.blender.org/developer/F9559593/after.png) They have the same resolution.

Thank you for checking. Please don't close it yet.
I assume you didn't change image output size from 19200x10800px?
If you can please save the rendered image and compare resolution of the image inside image editor in Blender with the resolution of the saved image. More feature-rich scene might be better example.

In my report resolution of the images inside image editor stays the same, but the pixels are shifted. The resolution difference is visible between image inside image editor and saved rendered image to the disk (opened with regular image viewer - just like in 4th picture in report).

I did not change the resolution and I have saved the render after. I don't see any difference in the pixels (Although it's hard to say without actually calculating the difference).

This is the saved render:

It's hard to tell from the image you attached, becase of the feature you chosed. In my 4th picture features on both images have the same size but different resolution.

Since 2.92 we use full sized buffer for displaying render result. But if the output is too big, we resize it so it can fit the GPU limitations (which is usually 16K these days).
We have the same issue if a texture is above this limit.

@Jeroen-Bakker will be working on a workaround for high resolution image display.
