System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.8.0-38-generic-x86_64-with-debian-bullseye-sid 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD RAVEN (DRM 3.38.0, 5.8.0-38-generic, LLVM 10.0.0) X.Org 4.6 (Core Profile) Mesa 20.0.8

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.91.0, branch: master, commit date: 2020-11-25 08:34, hash: 0f45cab862

Short description of error
When trying to resync libraries from scene it's having issues and making duplicates.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Link collection, make library override, make some change on the original and save, resync on the new scene.
The only thing may be works it's on the Save & Reload operator found on the Amaranth addon but having issues with Armatures

I can't get ID Data > Resync Library Override Hierarchy to work either. This applies to 2.91.0, 2.92.0 (current branch), 2.83.0 (current branch).

  • Create an object
  • Save the project
  • Open a new instance of Blender
  • Link the object from the saved project
  • Use the context menu on the outliner on the linked object and apply ID Data > Add Library Override Hierarchy
  • Edit the mesh in the original project and save it

In the new project use the context menu on the library overriden object and attempt to resync through ID Data > Resync Library Override Hierarchy

@mont29 is this already supposed to work or is this part of the ToDos in #83811?

Note Resync is not the same as Reload.
If you just want the mesh to be refreshed from the library, use the Outliner Blender File view, select the library there and do {key RMB} > Reload.

After you have added e.g. an override on the objects location, this can be Reset (to same values as in src file), Deleted (remove override) and Resynced (to re-generate an override when relationships between IDs are changed in library .blend file), see aeaf2b0d.

You're right, my bad. I think I had the same misunderstanding as @vr_sebas because of the description .

Resync Library Override Hierarchy
Rebuilds the local override from its linked reference, as well as its hierarchy of dependencies.

Reloading as you've described works as intended.

@vr_sebas The creation of duplicates on resync should be fixed by 3bdc42f97a. Please test the most recent daily build of 2.92 , I cannot reproduce that part of your report in current Blender versions.

Thanks @lichtwerk @rjg I found the Reload operator but It's tagged as "undocumented operator" in 2.91, so maybe that's the issue, I think It will be miss understood because it does not appear on the IDs data.
