System Information
Operating system: Windows 10

Blender Version
Broken: 2.79, 2.92

Short description of error
Clicking on a pie menu item doesn't work when holding the pie menu key. This is a problem because sometimes the pie menu key release isn't detected by blender and then the it locks the UI.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. On the 3D Viewport hold Z for the shading pie menu.
  2. While still holding Z try clicking on the pie menu items. Doesn't work.
  3. While still holding Z, left click on Windows's Taskbar then release z.
After that, clicking on the pie menu items doesn't work even though the user isn't holding the pie menu key anymore, blender still considers that the key is held. Then Blender gets locked to the user unless he knows to press esc or right click. The solution is making the pie menu clickable even when the pie menu key is held.

This is bothering me recently because I use tab pie menu for changing modes and for some reason sometimes when I alt+tab to other window the tab key release isn't registered and when I alt tab back to blender the pie menu is open and clicking anywhere on the UI doesn't work and it drives me nuts.

I can reproduce this on 2.93.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-01-27 09:26, hash: 3f8816eb6a.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open Blender and in the 3D viewport hold tab to switch modes and move the mouse over one of the modes.
  • While still holding tab, press alt. The OS menu to switch programs pops up (if the system is configured this way).
  • Switch to a different program. Then back to blender.
  • The pie menu is still there but left click does no longer work (I assume blender is waiting for the tab key to release). Right-click or ESC still cancels the action. Also, hovering over an option then pressing tab will also switch mode upon the release.

Will mark this as a paper-cut since it is an edge-case.
