Curve converted to mesh and Diff boolean modifier #85249

Operating system: MacOS
Graphics card:

Blender Version
Broken: 2.91.0, commit date: 2020-11-25 08:34, hash: 0f45cab862, type: Release

Short description of error
After converting a bezier curve/circle to a mesh the "Difference" boolean modifier on an other object using the converting mesh doesn't work,. But Union and Intersect work as expected.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Steps:

  • leave the initial cube
  • Add a bezier circle in object mode
  • convert the bezier circle to a mesh
  • select the new mesh,
  • in edit mode, hit "f" to fill the face
  • hit "e" to extrude on Z axis
  • in object mode, move the converted bezier circle on top of the original cube to have a intersection
  • add a boolean modifier to the cube with target object the bezier-based object
  • hide the bezier-based mesh from the view
  • no diff happens, the cube stays as initially created

The BezierCircle mesh in your example file has it's normals flipped (see Overlays -> Face Orientation). Probably the mesh was extruded to the wrong direction along Z-axis. You can fix it by going to the Edit Mode on BezierCircle, selecting all verts, then Mesh->Normals->Flip.
