System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 Pro 64bit
Graphics card: Titan (Maxwell)
AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 48GB DDR4

Blender Version
Broken: 2.92 rc Feb21
Worked: 2.91.2

Short description of error

I have a huge scene with many linked Collections from other blender files. Opening the main Blender file with 2.92 (in general, since beta) crashes Blender few seconds after opening the file. Crash: No message, blender shuts down.

The scene works fine with 2.91.2. Even trying to save all the files: library files, in native 2.92rc format, wont help. opening the library blender files individually in blender 2.92 works fine. That means, the files that has no linked libraries.

Thank you and regards,
Agon

P.S.
Tried in other Maschine: Ryzen9 3900X, 64GB DDR4, 2X1080Ti, windows 10 Pro 64 - Same problem!

We would need a minimal example project and linked files that would allow us to investigate this problem.

I am under NDA with a customer. There are CAD-Data that are inside in form of FBX. I have to check how can I do that without breaking NDA-Rules...

@agon You may be able to replace the original meshes with simple placeholder objects. As long as it still crashes we will be able to investigate the issue.

Hi Robert i made some Progress here but I think, these are information that can help you as well:

Its compositor that makes dhe 2.92 crash. More accurately, the cryptomate nodes. and this, only if you have linked libraries (in my case, complete collections). My solution, I opened it in 2.91, deleted just the cryptomate nodes and saved it. Opened it again in 2.92 (it did not crash!) , put new (fresh) crypomates and it is working, even if i open it again.

I think, since the original files were made in 2.91 and the libraries had some changes also in materials, the old crypomate picked up materials that were strill in the node text to be read, were not available any more. This crashed in some cases, while i was trying to change to delete the old mates in that node.

I experienced a similar bug when EEVEE's cryptomatte was first added. I'll see if I can track it down and see what the fix was.

The task was #83792. I have tried to create a scene in 2.91.2 with a linked in Suzanne, use cryptomatte and select Suzanne's material, then save and close the main scene. I then opened up the Suzanne file and changed to a different material on Suzanne, save, and reopen the main scene in 2.92rc. It opened just fine. In order to figure out the cause you would have to narrow it down to specific steps.

@EAW, @agon: can you provide example files where this fails [because I could not reproduce in the simple scenario I tested]?
