The crash also happens in 2.91.2 on a PC running Windows 10 19041 with a Nvidia 1080 card.

This second PC apparently also does not have any add-ons installed, so I'm attaching the crash log from that one too.

The stacktrace is rather strange, however without a file to reproduce the issue there is nothing much we can do. Can you try to reproduce the crash in a simple file of your own?

Well, I tested the file on my home PC (a third Windows 10 machine with a 1080), which meant that I had to pack all external data into the Blend file, because I don't have access to all the network shares with the resources on.

That made it stop crashing.

So, apparently the culprit is accessing files on a network share?

That means even if I could share the file, it would be meaningless because you do not have the same network setup that we use at work.

Is there a debug build of Blender I can try that produces better logs that would be of more help than the crash reports I attached so far?

(Also, outside of this report, but apparently linked collections do not get packed into the .blend file, which I think is quite bad and should at least be an option.)

I guess that you are using Cycles Network rendering feature? If so the feature is experimental and this is more of a todo than a bug. Otherwise I am not sure if any network issue can be solved from our end. We do not make debug builds AFAIK.

It was using the normal way to render, it's just that the textures (and a linked collection) came from locations on the network.

Today when I was going to try it again (on a third network computer) it rendered without crashing.

I guess it failed to find a texture/collection on the blend file before, and wasn't able to fail gracefully/inform the user about the problem and just crashed?

Either way, I guess this is truly a dead-end now.

(EDIT: Huh... and old copy of the same file does still crash... well, same dead-end, I guess, because it contains too sensitive material to share at this stage.)

Thanks for the report.
Let us know if the issue can be redone in a simplified file.
