Outputs and input ports of nods are not connecting

Short description of error
[Shader Editor is not working properly. Cant connect nodes, even though used all sorts of combinations and spend a lot of time trying to do something. It might be my very own problem, so I am sorry if the problem is my misunderstanding of something. ]

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
[ 1. Click the output port of the first node you want to connect.

  1. Drag the resulting arrow to the input port of the second node.
  2. Release the mouse button when the input highlights in yellow.

[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file [1]: (as simple as possible)]

Event Timeline

It would be really nice if you could upload a video of you trying to connect the sockets because i really have no idea what the problem could be (nodes work fine for me in all Blender versions)

@Elina (LightBringer) It would indeed be helpful if you could provide a video of what you are trying to do (just drag & drop a video file or use the upload function). Though I suspect you may be trying to connect inputs and inputs or outputs and outputs. Have a look at to get a better understanding of how the nodes work in Blender.
