Open file dialog causes application to hang #87472

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1650/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 451.67

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.93.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-04-09 21:26, hash: 0515ff70ec
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected) I have no idea but it was prior to 2.90.0 ;

Short description of error
When opening the open file dialog to save/open files the blender application hangs/freezes for a few minutes. If I try to do anything within Blender during this time it will crash. The folder you are in will not show any files or other items.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Click: File Menu -> Open; mouse over to the folders pane on the left and you'll find that app immediately hangs.

(there should be files and folders in the picture's dialog box as I do have items there)

I noticed this too. Your screenshot shows your loading files from a OneDrive folder, so I think this issue is related to the OneDrive Files On-Demand bug that I reported: #87621 (The Blender File Open dialog triggers OneDrive Files On-Demand downloads)

Hey you're right! I had a funny feeling it had to do with that. Turns out that if you disable "download files as you use them" in one drive settings it actually doesn't hang. Thank you for pointing that out! Problem solved for me at least for now!! :D

Is this still an issue for you using the latest released versions of blender? I can't seem to reproduce the issue here. If this is still an issue can you show a similar screenshot to mine below?

I am 90% certain this is no longer a problem. Just installed OneDrive and Blender 2.93.1 and no issues with hang-ups while using the file open or save dialog. I registered this with an email account I don't check too often apologies for the late reply.

Alright, will close this out then. Let us know if this happens again as there shouldn't be a need to workaround the problem by disabling the Files on-demand feature.

Pretty sure this problem was fixed by D11101 on the Windows side and D11466 on the macOS side.
