System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.4.0-74-generic-x86_64-with-glibc2.27 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 450.119.04

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.93.0, branch: master, commit date: 2021-06-02 11:21, hash: 84da05a8b8
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
When I open up Blender, and start to use it, everything works fine, until I play the timeline, or scrub through the timeline. Then, any audio that I'm listening to, Like a YouTube video, podcast, audio or video file, suddenly gets glitchy. There is Static in the audio. It continues even when I pause the playback in Blender. It happens when listening to audio in VLC, Blender, Firefox, and every other program that I tried. Also, when video editing in Blender, any audio in the timeline has the audio static as well. But as soon as I close Blender, it all returns to normal. I have tried restarting my computer multiple times and tried it again, and it still does the same thing. I have also tried it with headphones, as well as speakers, and it does the same thing. So its not a problem with my speakers. Also, when using the older version of Blender, Blender 2.92, none of this happens. I can't reproduce it in Blender 2.92.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Here is exactly what I do to make it happen. I open Blender, and then I turn on any audio, like a Youtube video, music file, or any other audio on my computer. Then, I can either scrub through the Blender timeline, or hit the spacebar to play the timeline in Blender, and all the audio coming from my computer gets distorted and has static. As soon as I close Blender, the static goes away.

I really appreciate you working to improve Blender! Thanks for your hard work! : )

Likely a duplicate of #88089. What distribution are you using? Debian by any chance? Also, what is your pulseaudio version?

I am using Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon. I'm not sure if It uses Debian or not.
I think my pulseaudio version is 11.1

I put this into the terminal: pulseaudio --version

And this is what I got: pulseaudio 11.1

So are you saying that this isn't a Blender problem, and its a problem with Linux?

It's unclear what exactly the problem is, whether it's in the way Blender uses pulseaudio or if the issue is within pulseaudio. As a workaround for now, you can switch the audio device in the preferences under system to OpenAL or SDL.

Ok Thanks. On my opperating system, I have a System Settings, but no Preferences. I looked through the system settings, but couldn't find any setting to switch the audio device. I looked under the sound settings as well, but couldn't find anything. I added a screenshot below, so that you can see the settings I have. If you could help me figure out how to switch the audio device, I’d appreciate it!

Ooh! Sorry, I didn't understand. Thank you so much! I just switched it and it worked.
