Cycles does not Function Properly in 2.93.0 #89019

System Information
Operating system: windows 10
Graphics card: NVidia RTX 2070

Blender Version
Broken: 2.93
Worked: none as of yet

Short description of error

When switching to the Cycles render engine, the view fails to load, and then blender freezes up and crashes when attempting to change the render engine or viewport view in any way.

This is currently in the attached blend file that I have included with this report.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

Change the veiwport mode of the 3D viewport to Rendered view in the included blend file, and then change the render engine to cycles.

Try to reduce the file size and attach simple file as you can.

Check if your driver is up-to-date else update it (https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/troubleshooting/gpu/#windows)

Thank you, I have compressed the file to a zip folder now to help with this.

I have checked my drivers, and as of 10/06/2021 I am using the most recent update of the NVidia Studio driver for my RTX 2070 graphics card which is currently recommended for higher strain rendering tasks.

This was still the case when the bug was first reported, and as of right now the bug still stands.

I have checked in my user preferences, and the rendering in cycles breaks regardless of whether I am using CUDA or OptiX when using the GPU acceleration function or CPU processing for the cycles engine.B Bug Boy 4 arms placeholder.zip

Thank you for the quick response.

Thanks, not sure why it fails on your system.

and then blender freezes up and crashes when attempting to change the render engine or viewport view in any way.

Can you check system performance when performing these operations? I am not able to replicate it on my machine

crashes when attempting to change the render engine

If software is crashing then upload debug logs here. For that:

  • open blender_debug_log (located in same directory where blender.exe is)
  • Reproduce crash then in windows explorer two files will be visible. paste them here
  • Open blender_debug_output from these two files, you will find the path of crash.txt.
  • Find crash.txt on your system and paste that here.

Ah, my apologies.

I have run the same test again today and after a few minutes cycles began rendering as usual.

I believe what may have happened is that when I changed the viewport display previously it was still loading up the kernels (it does warn me that this may take a few minutes) and my PC mistook this for a program being non-responsive.

I sincerely apologize for this confusion.

To confirm, GPU acceleration displays properly now, CPU rendering displays properly, and I have checked with different more high-poly files that everything is still working correctly and I haven't found any issues so far, including AI denoising.

The previously included blend file works perfectly now with no alterations made.

Thank you for being so patient with me.

Great! Thanks for checking.

Can I close the task assuming the problem is no more replicable for you?

Yes, this is all sorted now, thank you again for your time.
