It is possible to accidentally select (unselect) an object by clicking on its origin #91400

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 462.31

Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.0.0 Alpha, branch: master, commit date: 2021-09-13 12:13, hash: 4b06420e65
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error
Perhaps this is not a bug, but an undesirable behavior, but it creates a number of problems in object-rich scenes.

You can select (or unselect what is more important) objects not only by clicking (or drag-selecting) on their geometry but also by clicking on their center (a small white circle in the viewport). If you have many selected objects with origin in one place (for example, after importing) and try to unselect one, by dragging square or lasso across origins, you can unselect all objects with origin in the same place.

It is unlikely that anyone has ever really tried to select or unselect a geometry by trying to click on its origin, so it may be reasonable to disable the ability to select objects in this way.

Obviously, the solution is not to try to drag-unselect the origin of the object. But sometimes it is located inside another object.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Create several objects
Move origins of objects in one place
Select all
Drag-unselect across origins
You have all objects unselected

This is all working as intended.

Everything has pros and cons.

You say:

It is unlikely that anyone has ever really tried to select or unselect a geometry by trying to click on its origin

and then:

... and try to unselect one, by dragging square or lasso across origins

which kind of contradicts?

Like I said, everything has pros and cons, being able to select origins certainly has its benefits in certain situations.
To make this more convenient in your case (if I understand correctly) you could make use of these two things:

So thx again reporting, but disabling selection on the origin might seem like an improvent to behavior to you, it is not considered a bug though.

@lichtwerk

which kind of contradicts?

I meant you can do it, but I can't think of any situations where it might be necessary.

But of course, the fact that I don't see pros does not mean that there are no pros. I'm not so familiar with Blender yet. And thank you for the advice, it helped in my situation!
