Render crashes on "computing shadow transparency cube" with EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION #92462

Short description of error
When rendering this model in Cycles with both of the non-default materials enabled, Blender crashes when it reaches the "computing shadow transparency cube" stage. I have been unable to reproduce the crash with only one of the two materials enabled, or with both materials applied to the default cube, rather than to this model.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open the attached .blend file
Click "Render Image"

Correct.
On Sunday, when I originally made the bug report, it was crashing quite consistently. Today, after disabling and re-enabling various addons, I have been unable to reproduce the crash in the simplified file, though the original continues to produce the same crash.
I've downloaded the latest alpha, and will check whether the issue persists in that version.

The crash continues to occur in blender-3.0.0-alpha+master.32cc9ff03746-windows.amd64-release.
I've pared down the original file, and found another necessary condition for the crash. The hair particle system on the "Prowler" mesh must be enabled for the crash to occur.

Good to get this fixed for 3.0 as it does not happen on 2.93 and could maybe cause real issues.
