Worked: 2.9
Short description of error
Blender locks into Pose Mode if rig-object or the rig's collection is hidden
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open Blender, add a rig.
Go to pose mode, hide the rig object (toggle its viewport render or deactivate the collection the rig is in).
Blender now stays in Pose-Mode unable to leave it without restoring rig visibility.
In 2.9 Blender automatically exits Pose mode in this scenario. (Desired behavior)

Thanks for the report. Not sure if this was reported before. Confirming for now.
Will find when exactly behavior has changed.
Even using 3.0, I can't replicate this problem.
Even hiding the armature, I can exit Pose mode by pressing TAB, and if I deactivate the collection the mode automatically goes to Object.
It also reminds me of this other report:
#94781: Hiding Armature in Outliner while in Pose Mode, leaves viewport without ability to select or exit the Pose Mode
Could it be that this problem has already been fixed?
closing this as a duplicate of #94781: Hiding Armature in Outliner while in Pose Mode, leaves viewport without ability to select or exit the Pose Mode.
Disabling the collection will move you out of pose mode, but hiding the armature in the viewport (monitor icon) still traps you
