Mac OS X, M1 Max: Fonts library does not show (fully) #97676

System Information
Operating system: MAC OS X, 12.3.1 Monterey
Graphics card: Built in

Blender Version
Broken: (example: 2.80, edbf15d3c0, master, 2018-11-28, as found on the splash screen)
Worked: 3.1.0

Short description of error
When trying to change the fonts of a text via the properties panel-> "a" by clicking on the folder next to the fonts, it opens (by default, I guess) the (in my case) /Users/chris/Library/Fonts/-Folder. This folder only contains s few fonts, which is fine.

BUT, when i browse to System/Library/Fonts/ it only contains one Font: Arial, that is.
My Mac OS Fonts Library App though tells me I do have over 300 fonts installed.

I have not installed these fonts manually, since my Mac is just 4 weeks old and I have not altered much since then.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Add text in blender, type something, try to change the fonts.

I am reporting this as a bug since I believe it might have something to do with the M1 Max Chip.

So reproduction might not be possible on other systems.

Cheers
Chris

I cannot confirm this here, I see about 70 fonts inside my /System/Library/Fonts/ folder inside of Blender, and that matches the ones I see in Finder. Which Blender build are you actually using?

Can you please check if the issue is fixed for you with Blender 3.2 Alpha? https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/

I did!

My fault! Heaps of sorries!!

It works with both versions.

Here's what I got wrong:

**/Users/chris/Library/Fonts/ **is the default folder Blender jumps to. This one contains almost no fonts, since these are the ones that can only be used by the very user who installed them.

But usually, you (me!) install fonds for global use. And I am very positive most users do.

I then THOUGHT that System/Library/Fonts/ would be that very folder OS X puts them in.
Yet, I browsed into the wrong location THINKING, I was at System/Library/Fonts/ - which I wasn't.

I was at Library/Fonts/ - so there's another Fonts folder on the TOP-Level Library folder.
and I thought the top level IS "System" (so sorry for this).

But where are the fonts then:

Well, they are in System/Library/Fonts/ since "System" also exists on the top level (but I was only looking for Library) and several times clicked on it too quickly.

One more thing: ONLY System/Library/Fonts/ contains a "Font"-Folder which does NOT have the systemic look as in sporting a specific "F" for a Fonts-Folder.
Only Library/Fonts/ AND /Users/chris/Library/Fonts/ do.
Which is another irritating aspect.

I am not sure if this might be a useful suggestion after all so that this issue might have some benefit:

Why can't Blender by default link to the System/Library/Fonts/-Folder (on Mac) so that this won't happen to other users?

Cheers and Sorry again!!

Great to hear that it works for you now. I will close this report then.

You can change the default path in the User Preferences -> File Paths -> Fonts
