As several others have mentioned, emulate 3 button mouse is pretty important for those of us working with tablets.
The only problem is it messes up ring selection in edit mode, everything else is fine with double click for me. So my idea was, as a tablet user, I only use it in sculpt mode more than any other place, and by extension, object mode when switching between objects to sculpt and navigate around. I ended up adding a shortcut to 3D view that toggles the emulate 3 button mouse operator (with the help of python tooltips) whenever I wanted, so I could quickly enable it for sculpting/tablet based workflows, but disable it once I want to enter edit mode. This way, we could have an option to preserve the default alt based selection in edit mode and not have any problems with edge rings and double/triple tapping and so on. Once you want to get back to the sculpting/tablet based workflows, you could toggle it back on. So yeah, just exposing the toggle in viewport through a shortcut, a separate option or a pie menu (by adding in other emulate options too perhaps?) could go a long way in giving control to quickly switch between the two.

I think I found the epicenter of this issue. There's a super weird thing happening where the preferences window remains frozen when you open it until you click and move the window, then it suddenly unfreezes and everything works fine. I tested this by closing and restarting blender several times and doing it right after it launches and got the same result every time.

Thanks for the revision, Pablo! You submitted this just before the question leading to this page was read on the livestream, it's surreal! :0
And yep, it makes sense why it should be disabled by default, but adding it to the remesher seems like one step saved (going to edit mode and using fill holes operator) and I appreciate it. Hopefully, it gets reviewed and added soon :)

Hey, Lucas, thanks! That seemed to be the exact problem here!

So I guess the issue is this happens if the mesh is open somewhere. I realize Voxel Remesher uses OpenVDB and therefore treats the mesh as a volume object and volume objects have to be closed to function right. I think that hole filling step should be somehow automated, and constantly having to go and manually find and fill them becomes gradually cumbersome, especially once you start intentionally dealing with a lot of stretching and self intersection and tearing inside sculpt mode itself, during say, the concept development phase. I guess it's just countering my intuition coming from something like Dynamesh which does the fill holes part by itself and that's why this open neck basemesh just dynameshed perfectly fine without holes when I exported it there. I also googled "vdb holes in mesh" and this issue seemed to come up in a Houdini forum as well so I don't know if this is fundamental to this OpenVDB groundwork, but I trust in Pablo and squad to come up with a solution to this :)
