I tested again today, using RC2 hash 7b397cd with Houdini FX Apprentice Version 16.0.671, and Alembic Vertex Color is still not transferring. Animation works, but no vertex color, confirmed still an issue.

@Sybren A. Stüvel (sybren) I tried the latest "current master" build and still not working. Maybe my compiled is not really latest? May I know at which version exactly that exporting ABC Alembic with Vertex Color is working?

I can confirm as for August 2017, no vertex color is exported with Alembic and kind of wish the vertex color can be baked for every frame. I tried using Sverchok, didn't work.

This used to work, I can confirm as of today, this does not work properly anymore.

Ok, I might be wrong with Buffer object copy paste shuffled the index... it is more likely that the Default Blender Box index order does not match Blender "Create New Box" object. I tested with Shape Key and occassionally I am getting this weird Index Shuffle. Maybe it's just Blender Default Cube index needs to match the box creation. It's small details but might confuse Blender users.

Probably just binding for vertices or edges (only, no faces) causing the crash. Everything else is ok. I duplicate the original object that matches exactly the original object. I thought it works that way. However, now I understand that the Deformer object needs to be an enclosed mesh with volume.

Here is video capture. You see the Particle does not update as expected. Only until I scrubbed the total number and it is ok.
Blend file will not really help, but I can send you video capture showing it happening.

This hard-line between the TOOL-SHELF and the (temporary) TOOL OPTION is a little jarring at time.
