added a project: Platform: macOS.
Are you sure it's macOS only?
I tested it on windows on same machine (MacBook Air 2017) – same result.
Probably have to do more with Intel HD iGPU (mine is 6000).

Ok, thanks for clarifying this aspect!

I know, It can be adjusted to work within same file -- but for links in other file it's not viable solution at all.
May 8 2020
That's the new file I created with steps above (because I thought initial file was broken, so tried to recreate)
If you want to recreate yourself with new file:
- Delete everything in the scene
- Add "bezier curve"
- Extrude at least 1-2 points
- Add "Depth" in Curve panel -- Bevel - Depth
- Scale some points
- Add any material, add wave node and plug it to color in Principled BSDF
- Go to render view -- everything is OK.
- SAVE, CLOSE BLENDER AND RELOAD
- After reloading file -- the material on curve is NOT displayed.

Can still confirm problem with 2.83 beta from 7-th of May

MacBook Air 2017 user here :)
Have dual-core I5 and intel HD 6000
May 4 2020
Also tested with latest 2.83 beta as of 4-th of May
Apr 30 2020
Yes
And it is still annoying (especially when opening multiple .blend's)
Apr 26 2020
Where this sculpting experimental branch can be downloaded?
Thanks in advance! :)
Apr 17 2020
These blend files are also far from minimal
Sorry for that, but I also don't know what exactly is causing this issue (I am a newbie, especially to animation), so I couldn't strip this file to required minimum :)

Stas, thank you for testing!
Yes, it is problem with Intel iGPU, with discrete GPU works fine (by other's people words).
Apr 8 2020
Thanks Stas for testing!
Good to know I am not the only one)
Apr 7 2020
Checked on Windows 10 1909 -- works fine.
Can test on same laptop but with Windows 10 1909 on it. Will test it closer to evening.
Also, could be related with T73783 , but I am unsure.
Works fine if you delete these materials.

Yes, in 2.83 from 18.03.2020 seems working fine
But 2.82a is broken
Windows and Mac OS behaves much differently.
What happens on Mac OS (in terms of rendering) won't happen on windows and vice versa.
But yes -- thanks for testing!

Although, in render it looks fine...
I figured out grease pencil starts to disappear when moving bone "Spine.001" (the root of all armature)
(but also disappears for some reason if moving other bones)
Also attaching file, where it works fine :)
Mar 7 2020
Yes, in 2.83 that works fine...

The shader probably reached the limit on the number of textures. When this happens the terminal warns that the texture limit in the material has been reached.

Yes, still present with current 2.81.
Happens 2 out of 10 times, mostly when Mac is restarted (so NO blender.app loaded...).
When Right-Click-Mouse and choose "open with" -- it loads correctly with proper scene.
But after restarting OS and just clicking on file in finder (no "open with") -- it still loads default scene...
Dec 7 2019
Yup, with 2.82 alpha 7 Dec build everything works fine.
Closing this
Dec 5 2019
You might try again with a newer build.
Ok, will try (with later build, like 6 or 7 dec)
If works, then I will close this :)
Dec 2 2019
Seems to be connected with T71147 , which is resolved now.
Tested in 2.82 alpha -- bug is gone :)
Dec 1 2019
Tried new 2.82 alpha 1 December.
Bug IS GONE.
Big thanks!
Nov 29 2019
3 users on same OS (Mac OS Catalina 10.15) have confirmed that issue.
Nov 26 2019
Sorry, didn't know that.
I can test this bug as long as you will ask me.
Any suggestions what I can do with my OS except clean install?
(I know it's not forum for help, but there is always a probability someone like me still can encounter such bug...)
Would NOT put it in archive though...
Downloaded and tested with Blender 2.79 — same bug as with 2.80 and 2.81...
This IS strange, because on 2.79 I didn't encountered it before I tried 2.80 beta...
I will download blender 2.79 to test it again...
do you have maybe some strict permissions?
I didn't modified Mac OS files, System Integrity Protection is enabled (never was disabled).
I have Gatekeeper disabled though, but that couldn't be a problem...
but until we can reproduce this on our side, there is not much we can do.
(Obviously) I will wait as much as needed. If you need some info (with steps how to gather it) I can give it :)
Sebastian Parborg (zeddb) reopened this task as Open.
Phew, thanks. Closed new duplicate :)
And nope — it STILL present.
I am encountering this bug almost every time I open .blend file...
Why closing this task before I've checked it? I could do that (closing issue) myself then if everything fine...
Also, I added in info version that I've tested with video: 2.81 beta 2019-11-11
Nov 20 2019
Thanks!
Yes, I understand now and it's working properly!
Nov 19 2019
Works well (no bug) on 2.80 release. So it's not my drivers or OS :)
