On this thread https://community.amd.com/message/2772700 there is a confirmation that ticket has been raised against this issue with 7870. It is being investigated.
Coukd you leave the compatibility requirement for 7870?
Maybe someday AMD will change the drivers so that issue will be fixed. I have been writing the feedback to them often.

Yes, you can close this thread becasue original issue is fixed. I will open new thread.

Loading kernels takes long. Sun lamp with white color and strenght set to 2 is yellow. How can this be?
Mar 18 2017
Please, delete this thread. I tried to use carver brushes in local view of object. When I exit local view carver works normally. I forgot I was in local view.

I don't know if I should open new report for this but I can't render anything with GPU.
Mar 4 2017
Then I believe we could merge this 2 reports.
This is very similar to my issue. https://developer.blender.org/T50773
Maybe source of the issue is the same.

What GPU and drivers you have ?
Feb 18 2017
I'm not sure but I think Blender only supports 7xxx cards and above for Opencl GPU compute.

Try https://builder.blender.org/download/ and wait for new drivers.
Jan 9 2017
Which drivers you have installed ? Try latest 16.12.2
Jan 7 2017
Latest driver is 16.12.2. We have to wait for new drivers.
Try latest Blender version https://builder.blender.org/download/
Jan 6 2017
I have latest drivers: Crimson ReLive Edition 16.12.2.
I have opened thread with Crimson ReLive Edition 16.12.1.
I should update: with Crimson ReLive Edition 16.12.2 and todays build

At first I wanted to notice your inconsistency, but just see that you are different person, not the author of that bug report :)
Dec 19 2016
I had the same issue and it already fixed in daily builds. You need to change that 'D->z' to '(*D).z' in line 238 in file kernel_projection.h .
But it also probably pointing out to dated AMD graphics driver on your pc. Because with AMD GPU Pro 16.40 graphics driver for Linux that issue not happens for me. Probably newest AMD graphics driver for Windows also have no troubles with 'D->z'.

I don't understand. You can download it by clicking the link in my report. I copy and pasted it from the macOS crash report dialog.
Which drivers you have installed?
I have similar issues with latest Crimson ReLive drivers.
@Tomas Andrle (tomovo) ,where is located crash report .txt?

I found something else:
If I render with Progressive refine, black screen is not present only weird shading on sphere:
Still the same issue (rendered without motion blur).
Also, what I found if you render without motion blur and then check motion blur, render kernels are loading as if for the first time.
Nov 28 2016
I have now installed Crimson 16.10.4 and it takes to long to render.
Nov 25 2016
Use 16.10.4 and try to check motion blur before rendering.
Nov 20 2016
Try to check motion blur and then render again on GPU.

I can't render on AMD 7870 with Blender 2.78a official release.
Drivers: Crimson 10.2
Win 10 x64
Oct 13 2016
Still black screen and hair PS issue with blender-2.78-3e460b6-win64.zip and Crimson 10.1 on AMD 7870.
Sep 29 2016
Testingwith Catalyst 16.9.1
GPU render with blender-2.78-78c380d-win64 build (you can see weird shading on sphere and in viewport comparing to CPU render)
With @john peterson (bliblubli) build https://uploadfiles.io/90e0707ou
you can see strange tesselation shading on sphere is gone. But render is too dark still.
Could you implement bliblubli's OpenCl code? It solves tesselation shading when hair PS in on scene.
Sep 20 2016
I got OpenCl error when rendering with latest build.
AMD 7870, 16.9.1
Does not depend on tile size.
Sep 19 2016
Rendering same file I got
console error message:
Sep 18 2016
@John (Jns_76) please test newest drivers

@Sergey Sharybin (sergey) I did't set up the GPU compute properly.
The issue is still there in the build 9.9.2016 with 16.8.3.
Sep 7 2016
Sep 6 2016
There is issue with Interpolated mode. In the process of rendering, Blender freezes with Interpolated mode. I captured the screen when it froze.

Today's build didn't crash but hair rendering is still fault. I post console log if it helps.
Is it possible to implement test variables for console log to detect this issue's source ?
I'm not using modification. I'm running Win10 64.
I found blender -b file.blend -f 01 that this renders within comand line.
I saved screens from console
Aug 15 2016
Blender build 15.8.2016 crashes immediately when GPU starts rendering.
Also, crashes in viewport rendering mode.
(AMD 7870, every Cycles scene, latest drivers)
Where can I find console log file so that I can report what happened?
Aug 11 2016
OpenCL error (-61): CL_INVALID_BUFFER_SIZE in clCreateBuffer OpenCL error: CL_INVALID_MEM_OBJECT in clEnqueueWriteBuffer(cqCommandQueue, CL_MEM_PTR(mem.device_pointer), CL_TRUE, 0, size, (void*)mem.data_pointer, 0, NULL, NULL)
Aug 9 2016
Thanks. Than it's probably driver issue with AMD 7870.
Aug 5 2016
Yes, with latest build.
Now I'm completely sure that hair PS is connected with OpenCl issue.
- Cube with hair PS is on scene (not in camera view)
@Sergey Sharybin (sergey) ,I suspect that hair particle system causes issues with OpenCl.
At least on AMD 7xxx series (Pitcairn), GCN1.

User from the thread https://community.amd.com/thread/200513 reported that render passes with drivers 16.7.3 but there are weird stripes and shading involved:
Jul 29 2016

Mr. Trickey, I did some test. If I bevel the vertices in edit mode,
then solidify and bevel modifier pass without crash. But that results in unwanted geometry.
Jul 15 2016
It also crashes with blender-2.77-71bbf0e-win64.zip build on Fri Jul 15 05:44:20 2016 with the same object.

Thanks, where is the mailing list ?

Can some of Cycles developers contact AMD developers on
https://community.amd.com/community/devgurus/opencl/content for providing information and debugg feedback ?
