Phabricator is the name of the software powering developer.blender.org. It may be possible to communicate that more clearly in those messages, but we are not developing Phabricator and don't want to make too many customizations for such minor things.

Regardless if it's easy or not, i would really prefer if we did not store a giant cache of users passwords in clear text. might have been ok 10 years ago, but right now it's just bad security practice

There is also: sphinxcontrib-versioning , but it doesn't support internationalization (languages). It would do the first method "auto build" as described above. I can't tell if it works with SVN, then it maybe can be used for the API.

It's possible to have both: a numbered build and a release build (100% copy) on a new B. release the release tag gets a new clone.
Isn't that how it's handled in the api (current).

I agree that we should do something like pydoc. I think we make version picker badge like rtd
which include two separate dropdown/up menus that also have search functionality (at least for language)

Note that I'm not proposing to move the dev docs out of the wiki, but just to move them to a different URN to make our infrastructure less confusing - e.g. wiki.blender.org/Dev:foo/ -> docs.blender.org/dev/foo/

Do you mean make the current page the new Main_Page for https://wiki.blender.org/? Or do you mean move the wiki to the "root" path on https://doc.blender.org/?

None of these, I was just pointing out that the entry point to all Blender documentation currently is https://wiki.blender.org/, and in future with the new docs infrastructure it would be https://docs.blender.org/. Both sites can stay as they are for now (as long as we keep wiki.blender.org), just saying ;)

I think that there is a built-in phabricator wiki. Not to say we should switch to that (@Sergey Sharybin (sergey) would know best here), but it would conflict with the path a bit potentially?

I can see some good points here. I kinda like the idea of having a wiki in docs as well, but is this what we really want? We could move https://en.blender.org/ under https://docs.blender.org/wiki/ (even as a test to see how it works) and have https://docs.blender.org/ redirect to /wiki/ by default, I suppose. Your call.

Julian Eisel (Severin) added a comment to T50466: Relocation of the documention (final solution).

@Bastien Montagne (mont29), my point is simply that docs.blender.org/api/ is far too vague and may be misleading. We do have many APIs, it doesn't matter if they're internal/private or external. The thing is, one person clicking on docs.blender.org/api/ might expect to see an API documentation for C/C++ plugins, another one might expect to see the documentation of the internal APIs and another one might expect it to show the Python API documentation.
The URLs and sitemap structure should make it clear what kind of APIs and corresponding docs are available.

I think he meant more like a server treating something like foo.blah as some weird extension in Apache using some weird mime type or extension handler. At least that is what I took away from it.
