Description

This project is to help with the volume of reports in BF Blender that developers cant redo.

Reports which developers cant redo are moved here:

  • at least 2 other people need to check the report.
  • If after 2 weeks nobody can redo the issue, the report is closed.

Note: This is NOT for incomplete reports, if the report has sufficient information to redo the bug, but still cant be redone, then it belongs here.


Canned response for tickets:

The issue reported can't be reproduced so far, and has been moved to the //BF Blender: Unconfirmed// project.
If 2 other people aren't able to redo the bug after 2 weeks, it will be closed.

We appreciate the effort that goes into making bug reports, but to be able to fix bugs we have to be able to redo them.
If there is anything you can provide to help others to reproduce the problem, be sure to include it.

Ryota (syn-crow) added a comment to T94383: Cycles X cannot finish rendering a sequence.

Keep User Window is the only one that works. For everything else, it just crashes after a few frames (I have all the denoising on).
When it crashes, it just stops in the middle of sampling and goes silent. When I click on the window, it just says Blender stopped responding and the window turns pale white.
This would be the same if I start rendering with the window minimized and then click on the window to enlarge it. At that point, after rendering a few more frames and it freezes.

Now I am suspecting that it has something to do with the Render window. When I minimize that window, I can throw any denoiser settings at it (including Noise Threshold and Optix denoiser) and it can render the sequence no problem. It's only when I leave the window open, the render gets stuck.

So does Blender crash or Render window closes? Now that I recall debug output I suspect the latter.

I don't think it's the disk space. I have about 700GB of free space in my C drive, but it's still freezing up.

Thanks. I don't see anything strange in particular... Just a wild guess, check if your C drive have enough free space. When rendering Blender writes frames in temp folder on C drive.

So it was not working on your C drive and on the others it's fine?
Perhaps your drive is damaged or already close to it's life span? There should be software/utilities that can check it.

Yeah I tried adding the -d and it still wasnt working right for some reason so i just gave up and moved everything that was important on my c drive to my other drives and restarted my pc. It is now working again but i will keep testing it as i download things back so i can try and test to see if there was a specific thing that caused it.

Transparent windows is not something we would like to support as it would make color management a hell. What would help (and is already being developed) is viewport compositing. Here you could add and composite the external resource (movie file) inside blender and use the compositor node tree to interact with it.

I am not on Windows, but windows was always case-insensitive in regards to paths, right (remember headaches about this back in the days)?
Assume that since OSL is cross-platform, OSL is case-sensitive and if the "wrong" [lowercase] drive letter is used : will fail.

If I understand correctly, this is an issue with the VSCode Addon only.

No, issue will (should) happen when blender is started from any terminal, not addon only. Casing of characters in path to blender.exe make all internal paths to be cased in one way. While OSL expects them to be always in uppercase. Thus difference->warning->compilation error

Georg K (georg) closed T87591: Compositor backdrop/Image Editor render disappear (AMD VERDE & Mesa) as Resolved.

Retested with OpenGL: renderer: AMD VERDE (DRM 2.50.0 5.12.9-1-MANJARO LLVM 12.0.0) v: 4.5 Mesa 21.1.2: the backdrop/render does no longer disappear (in today's master and older releases), so this was a mesa issue that got fixed and the bounding box issue was fixed by today's commit.

You could check D11423: Fix compositor backdrop gizmo refresh problem when toggling sidebar, I doubt it would fix the other issue.

The question is: can it not be reproduced by a user with an older amd card? As long as blender does not drop amd support, it can not be regarded as tested if no amd/mesa user tested it.
Currently I would assume that these issues belong together and that solving the bounding box issue might perhaps even solve (or hide) the other issue.

I just wonder - is there a Dev who used a recent Blender version (2.83 or newer) on Mac for at least 2 hours? Creating a few objects and collections and playing around?
For me that was the 'easiest' way to reproduce the issue. ;-)

Sorry to bother, but after some more investigation i found the difference that is not involving vscode/addon stuff and is reproducable (on my PC): the way blender starts.
When i double-clicking "blender.exe" - Everything works
When i opening cmd.exe and type "blender.exe" - OSL error occurs

It is really strange. Just now i started blender 293, loaded file again and... it compiled!!! i swear, i didn`t "make up" screenshots from above, the problem was here 2 days ago.
But, after some investigation i found another case when it is reproducable (on my PC).

It's sort of a bug in OSL that it treats preprocessor warnings as errors, though the warning shouldn't be there in the first place.

Maybe the underscore at the start of the folder name is related, that's a bit unusual.
